Update : Bins Collection

by Sandy on 30 January, 2013

The following information has been provided to Councillors from Leeds City Council Chief Officer – Waste Management.

I have highlighted (in bold) the salient parts.

Councillors;

Now that the snow has disappeared, refuse collectors are making every effort to get bin collections back on track and additional staff have been out to pick up as many bins as possible.

Once-a-month green bin collections are still being prioritised. It is expected that the majority of these recycling collections will have been recovered by this Thursday.

The crews are also making great headway in collecting black bins normally scheduled for a weekday collection. From Thursday all spare resources will be focussed on the recovery of uncollected black bin waste.

However due to the amount of waste needing to be recovered, collections for the remainder of the week, especially Saturday are likely to be affected. Residents who normally have their black bin emptied on a Saturday are being asked to put their bin out as usual this Saturday, 2 February. If bins haven’t been emptied by 5pm on Saturday residents should leave them out and refuse collectors will endeavour to collect them on Sunday, 3 February.

It is expected that collections will return to normal service from Monday 4th Feb.

Household waste sorting sites are open to take any extra waste.
