Below are the April 2021 claimant counts for Otley and Yeadon.
The provisional figures for the total number of people claiming Universal Credit in the Leeds local authority area in April 2021 is 75,427 which is 14.6% of the working age population.
In Otley & Yeadon there are now over 10% of residents claiming Universal Credit as of April 2021
The chart above includes all claimants whether they are in employment or not in employment and is an increase of 232% increase since March 2020.
The chart above outlines the number of Otley and Yeadon residents ‘out of work’ and claiming Universal Credit. This is a huge jump in the last year and each one of these 793 represent a real person, a real family and real hardship.
This is very worrying and so we need to see renewed financial and emotional support for residents and businesses from both from the Labour run City Council and from the Conservative central government.
